Safety and security — IGCSE Information And Communication Technology (0417) questions by topic
Safety and security questions ask you to explain specific mechanisms and terms: what SSL does on a bank's website, the difference between personal and sensitive data, how credit card cloning works, or how a user ID combined with a password increases security. Explain dominates and wants a reasoned answer rather than a definition alone, while state, describe and give test naming the correct term or feature.
22 questions from 2023 to 2025 make up this set, worth between 4 and 10 marks. Because explain answers here are marked on cause and effect rather than just correct terminology, submitting attempts for instant marking shows whether a response has stated the right term but stopped short of explaining why it actually improves security.
