Electricity and magnetism — IGCSE Physics (0972) questions by topic
Transformers, magnets and circuits are the daily business of this topic, from reasoning whether a 240 V to 12 V transformer with 2000 secondary turns is step-up or step-down, to identifying the field pattern around a bar magnet, to explaining how a magnetic window cleaner works through glass. Identify, calculate, state, describe and explain are the command words, with calculate meaning a turns-ratio or current figure worked correctly from given values.
This is the largest topic in the syllabus, with 193 real questions from 2023 to 2025 papers, worth 1 to 12 marks. Submitting each transformer or circuit calculation for instant marking is the quickest way to catch an inverted ratio or a misidentified field direction before it recurs across several related questions.
