Products and services — IGCSE Travel & Tourism (0471) questions by topic
Adverts and photographs anchor every question: identify features of a cruise line's elderly-passenger provision, state benefits of serviced accommodation in Tokyo, or list packages from a sports-travel operator, always reading the source insert closely before answering.
Explain, state, discuss, identify and evaluate lead the command words, with marks running from 20 to 25, so a single evaluate question can be worth as much as a quarter of the paper. This page draws on 34 questions from 2023 to 2025 sessions, so practise stating exactly what the insert shows rather than general knowledge, then use instant marking to check whether a service was mistaken for a product, or a claim was left too vague to count.
What examiners look for
- A recurring criticism is that answers missed the service element, for example describing travel agents as providing accommodation rather than selling or advising on it.
- Examiners note that water-based activities were sometimes wrongly offered as answers to a question specifically about land-based adventure tourism, so were not creditworthy.
- Reports state that vague seasonality links such as 'bad weather' needed tightening to a specific term like 'rainy season' or 'rainy weather in off peak season'.
- Strong answers, according to the reports, correctly stated three different types of road transport and three land-based adventure tourism activities.
- Examiners praise responses that showed good understanding of how boat tours keep guests safe, most commonly citing life jackets or handrails.
