Writing — IGCSE Spanish (7160) questions by topic
Writing tasks in IGCSE Spanish range from completing a short registration form with personal details to producing a 130 to 140-word email describing an experience such as a surf competition, so accuracy in verb forms and covering every bullet point both matter. Write and complete are the command words that dominate, and each task rewards methodical coverage over length.
Marks run from 5 up to 28 depending on the task, across 15 real questions drawn from papers set between 2023 and 2025. Draft and submit answers for instant marking to check tense control and register on each task, since the mark scheme credits candidates who work through bullet points in order rather than writing one long, less accurate paragraph.
What examiners look for
- A recurring criticism is candidates producing a country such as Francia where a language was required, or writing caro instead of carro, changing the meaning entirely.
- Examiners note some candidates named a subject or a time instead of the day or month asked for, or wrote unnecessary long paragraphs that led to greater inaccuracy overall.
- On the email tasks, a common mistake was describing a usual routine rather than the one specified, or naming unhealthy food without actually stating that it was unhealthy.
- Strong answers worked methodically through the tasks in order, wrote one paragraph per bullet point, and used more complex connectors such as sin embargo, además and no obstante.
- Reports praise candidates who backfilled with justifications, developments and opinions to add further information once the core tasks were covered.
