Physical quantities and units questions ask which SI base units apply, how to define a scalar quantity, uncertainty propagation for a sphere's volume from its radius, and vector subtraction drawn to scale, worth from 1 to 10 marks.

- A small minority incorrectly believe the coulomb is an SI base unit.

- A common mistake is forgetting to double percentage uncertainty in velocity before adding it to percentage uncertainty in displacement, or confusing percentage with absolute uncertainty.
- Reports flag using an incorrect volume-of-a-sphere formula, and multiplying by three instead of dividing by three when converting a volume uncertainty to a radius uncertainty.
- Stronger candidates correctly calculate the percentage uncertainty in volume, then divide by three to reach the percentage uncertainty in radius.
